Dr. Koch has extensive experience in medical malpractice case review, consultation, and testimony. He is available as a consulting expert to provide recommendations to attorneys as to whether the case has merit, discuss standard of care issues, and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the case. He is also available as a testifying expert after review of materials. He is available for both plaintiff and defense cases.
Patents
Dr. Koch has significant experience in medical device patent law, and recently served as the Non-Infringement Expert for Lumenis Ltd. & Pollogen Ltd. in a Section 337 Investigation and parallel litigation regarding radiofrequency skin treatment devices (“Certain Radiofrequency Microneedle Dermatological Treatment Devices and Components Thereof” (Investigation No. 337-TA-1112)). Dr. Koch testified at the US International Trade Commission in Washington, DC where the Administrative Law Judge tentatively ruled the asserted patent was invalid. This led to a favorable settlement with no exclusion after hearing.

Based upon his extensive wound healing background and knowledge of aesthetic medical devices, Dr. Koch has served as a defense expert in Product Liability litigation since 2020.
Aesthetic device testing and consulting
Dr. Koch has a special expertise in aesthetic devices, including lasers, ultrasound devices, and radiofrequency devices. He is available for consultation related to device testing and development, assistance with clinical trials, Scientific Advisory Board functions, medical presentations and the preparation of white papers, instructional workshops, and in-services with individualized teaching across several laser platforms.
Dr. Koch is a leading innovator and authority on non-invasive techniques for facial rejuvenation and his teachings are recognized internationally by aesthetic health care professionals. Through physician-only workshops and instructional courses, no one has taught more doctors how to perform laser skin resurfacing than Dr. Koch. Also through such educational functions, no one has taught more doctors how to perform the Thermage procedure than Dr. Koch. Highly regarded as an expert in the area of non-invasive cosmetic procedures, Dr. Koch has been featured in numerous newspaper articles, television broadcasts and popular magazines such as Glamour and Allure.
Dr. Koch currently serves as a Consultant for Merz Aesthetics and Zeltiq/Allergan/AbbVie where he reviews outcomes and assists with face and neck study protocols. He has also served on Thermage’s Scientific Advisory Board as well as the Coapt Medical Advisory Board.
